Total Transparency
For a see through Summer
Lately (like everyone else, let’s be honest), I’ve been drawn to all things clear and jelly-like. Think glycerin, not glitter. The soap nail trend really spanned further than we could have imagined.
For me, it was the Chloe sandals, but I’ve actually been into transparent accessories for years. My first was the Cult Gaia Cora bag, and I’ve just kept collecting ever since.
There’s something about transparent fashion that makes an outfit feel a little more alive. Whether it’s a tiny pendant or something bolder, it adds interest without competing. Plus, it goes with literally everything—which, for someone who tends to overthink outfit combos (hi, me), is kind of a lifesaver.
I’ve compiled a few of my favorites from this season—
| SHEER SIMONE ROCHA SKIRT | CHLOE JELLIES | MANICURIST ACTIVE PLUMP | ELIOU FISH PENDANT | JENNY BIRD GLASS NECKLACE | DEAR FRANCES MESH GROCERY TOTE | PRASIOLITE PRUNT PENDANT | VB POSH GLOSS | JENNY BIRD PINK CLEAR SUNNIES | AMAZONITE AND ROSE QUARTZ NECKLACE |
If you’re not quite ready to dive into a fully sheer dress (and I don’t blame you), there are easier entry points. Try a translucent jelly manicure, a glossy bare lip, or my personal favorite: the Light Catching Highlighter Balm from Ami Colé or something sheer and pretty from Merit. This one adds just the right hint of iridescence to cheekbones, the bridge of the nose—or, for something mermaidy and unexpected, across the lids. It's a low-commitment way to ease into the look without feeling like you're in costume.
Something I have been testing the waters with most recently, is mesh or sheer chiffon dresses.
The summer is a time to play with fabrics, but mostly to let my skin breathe!! I was born in Arizona and now live in Texas, so I really cannot stress this enough— I’ve been unable to escape the heat and now the humidity. Winter is for warmth and Summer is for sun and skin! I have been experimenting with sheer fabrics— something I was too scared to do just this last season.
This one is loud and not my usual pick, but something about the poppy (my favorite flower) and the combo of red and blue.
When I am looking for less shock value, which feels more me, I go for something cotton or a blend with just the right amount of see-through. Sort of like this one—
For me, translucent pieces are kind of the ultimate style cheat code. First off, there’s no financial barrier to entry. You can find a pair of jelly flats or a sheer mesh dress for $50 just as easily as you can for $500. The materials—plastic, silicone, glass, mesh, chiffon, span every price point. And if Jess Graves is blessing the dupes? That’s enough for me.
But the real magic is in how they style. These pieces carry their own weight—they are the moment—so everything else can chill. Add The Row jelly flats to cutoffs and a simple top, and suddenly your outfit looks intentional, even elevated. It’s easy, but not lazy. That’s the sweet spot.
Larissa Mills gets it. This feels totally up her alley as a design choice in general. She is one of my absolute favorites for when I want a dose of color, uniqueness, or a shift in status quo.
Another fashion star is obviously our favorite lady Gabriella Gofis with approachable, refined, yet wearable pieces that make me want to SPEND. If you follow her here she writes about high and low fashion, as pictured in the Zara skirt below. Chefs kiss.
A sheer maxi skirt or a gauzy blouse with tailored trousers is my favorite kind of seasonal segue. Light enough for summer, layered enough for fall. They say if an outfit can’t stand out through color, let it be texture. If not texture, then proportion. I’d add: let it be sheer. And while we’re here, show me an outfit that wasn’t made better by a good clear accessory.
I am obsessing over this topic— if you have any unique ways you’ve personally incorporated it, then please share below! Xoxo.
